Introducing The Berry Tea Shop – a local cult tea label in Berry, NSW Australia. Established in 2010 Paulina and Cliff, the owners wanted to rebrand and lose the kitchy, shabby-chic style their brand was sporting. Wanting something more out of Harrod’s they brought me on to help elevate their brand and packaging.
A serif font was a must for their logotype, a classic, traditional style with wide kerning which gives it an established air.
‘FINE TEA MERCHANTS’ tagline was added as if you didn’t know by their name what they offered (sarcastic tone) as well as their est date, which is a great trust builder.
Designing the new tins for The Berry Tea Shop range of teas was a real pinch-me moment. Creating the pattern and working with overseas manufacturers on samples to get the embossed lid and tin wrap perfect was a huge endeavour but one that paid off in spades.
Once the tin was in the works we moved on to the labels that would stick on the front and back, as well as used on the refill bags and wholesale bags.
If you don’t know much about tea (don’t worry, I didn’t either before working with Paulina) they have various tea families if you will (green, herbal etc) and then The Berry Tea shop have crafted blends of tea and flavours for a drinking experience with health benefits.
We decided on a colour palette that would work for these different families and made sure they were hues that were pulled from the pattern so everything worked together on the tin as well as displayed on shelfs in the shop.
Premium uncoated cotton paper stock was selected that has a slight texture for their business cards and gift vouchers. Their main logo stands on it’s one on the front of the designs in classic gold foil.
Rebranding can be a costly exercise as the shop signage all had to be redone. The shop signage featured gold window decals, swing signs, fascia as well as oval side and top of building signs. Black and gold colour combo was selected for the signage so as not to date and would work with the buildings changing paint jobs through the ages.
To say I was fortunate to be able to work with such a business that entrusted this mammoth design job to The Brain Child is an understatement. I have watched on from the side lines with awe as the owners renovated the interiors with their branded forrest green with gold hardware touches while keeping true to their roots with delicate china tea pot sets and roses literally cascading from the roof.
If you are so lucky to be able to visit this boutique town, The Berry Tea Shop is one I recommend to visit.

We are so happy with the tins and people are just grabbing them off the shelves for presents. We can’t keep up with labeling and packing at the moment. Obviously, there is an influx for Christmas but I have looked at tea sales for previous years and there’s definitely an increase. I know it has been a long, drawn-out process and we have been very particular with everything but I agree that the tins are totally on-brand. We want to thank you for all your amazing work and patience throughout the year.
